Google announced a huge feature for the Google Clock app. In a blog post from Rui Song, a Product Manager for the Pixel Essential Apps team, wrote that Spotify integration is coming to the Google Clock app. Instead of selecting the boring preset sounds for an alarm or purchasing an mp3, you can now choose to play music from Spotify. This includes songs or a Spotify curated playlist. The best part about this is that this works with Free and Premium Spotify users. Song, states that the feature will be coming to everyone with devices running Android 5.0 (lollipop) and above in a form of an update to the Google Clock app on the Play Store sometime this week.
In a screenshot, it is explained that when selecting an alarm sound there will be an additional tab for Spotify. This will allow the user to select from hand-picked playlists by Spotify or search for a specific song. When the alarm is on and is switched off you will be given an option to continue to listen to Spotify.
This continues to prove that Google is willing to work with competing service providers to increase the appeal of Android devices to the average user and gets me excited for future updates.
