In an unexpected post on the OnePlus forum, OnePlus announced this morning that it will be updating their 2016 flagships to Android P. Since their latest update to OxygenOS 5.0.4, fans have been asking plenty of questions about the next big update. OnePlus stated that after listening to feedback from its users and some deliberation, they decided that they will be skipping Android 8.1 and jump to the latest version. They did not state an immediate time frame and only said that the Android P update will be released in the order of newest to oldest: OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5 and 5T, and finally OnePlus 3 and 3T. OnePlus has had an inconsistent history of performing updates for their devices, OnePlus fans and the Android community should rejoice as we take another step to bridge the gap on the severe fragmentation the Android operating system faces.
OnePlus mentioned that they will release more information in the coming months. As we inch closer and closer to the official launch of Android P, it will be very interesting to see how soon companies participating in the Android P beta program will launch the next version of Android on their devices.
